| Andrew Cowie's latest play is a slick fast moving comedy of manners with a great deal of witty
dialogue and attractively pacy plot developments of partner swapping and sibling rivalry. All four
actors appreciate the originality and humanity of this short comedy about contemporary lives and loves.
It opens with an increasingly bitter speech by David on the occasion of the anniversary of the marriage
of his elder brother, Richard to the very lovely Ruth, who is also David's ex girlfriend. While Richard
is seemingly a successful, self-satisfied businessman, David is professionally and emotionally adrift,
currently exploiting the devotion of his partner, Gillian. When Richard is forced to confront his
business and emotional failures a chain of betrayal begins which can only end in tragedy.
The Design by Hecate - Passionate Geometry:- The story is built upon each character's need to be the person who knows 'the truth' and whose version is therefore authorised to the rest of the world. The fight for this is shown in flashback, dream and vision following and contradicting each other. The design is likewise fluid and abstract as it tries to embody the emotional relationships rather than stark reality. |
